Singing in the Round, is once again hosting Northern Harmony, the inspirational youth choir from Vermont, USA, for three days in March 2010.
This incredible American a cappella group are steeped in traditional music originating from these islands, as well as travelling through different singing traditions from around the world. Their performance encompasses the rich folk songs of South Africa, the dark, sonorous sacred songs of Caucasus Georgia, the unique sound of Bulgarian village songs and wonderful songs from the wild and unrestrained American shape-note tradition. This time, we have extended their visit another day, in order to make use of their expertise and skill, to encourage young people in this locality in traditional song and dance. In co-operation with the Wiltshire Music Centre, the choir will be running workshops in 2 local comprehensive schools, John of Gaunt’s in Trowbridge and George Ward in Melksham, and teaching 2 sessions for families, all culminating in a public family dance where we hope all the different age groups will show off their new skills to each other on the Saturday evening.
