Candy Verney's passion is to inspire and create, through singing, a sense of harmony which gives an experience beyond the ordinary.
She has worked extensively bringing the joy of singing into work places, hospitals, councils and businesses, early years settings and schools. She has featured on Radio 4's HomeTruths and Traveller's Tree.
She has developed her own unique method of music making, and has a gift for drawing out ability from people who felt they had none, and giving the singers a rich musical experience.
Candy Verney trained at Bristol University and Goldsmiths College and started Singing in the Round in 1997, wanting to create a place where anyone could sing, and where the joy of singing and the community created were as important as the music. It has since then grown into 5 community choirs, which she continues to direct, in collaboration with Jane Harris and Sian Penlington.
Recognising the need for more teachers to work in a similar way, Candy Verney runs a training programme for Community Choir leaders.
"How good we are is totally down to you and your skill as a musician and leader. You are a true inspiration to all."
"I clean for a lady in Bathford and it used to be on a friday morning, so I informed her I would have to come at another time, it was either that or she would have to do her own cleaning. I go around with the vacuum singing my head off.
"Every week you weave your magic creating a wonderful sense of community, fun and laughter. Your light hearted manner brings out the best in everyone. We laugh and learn and sing with such enthusiasm and sensitivity, which all stems from the unique gift you have of creating a space where everyone feels valued, welcomed and part of something special."
